Michael Heinsen's series La Isla Bonita is a photographic homage to the grace and enigmatic beauty of Mallorca. Heinsen prefers to photograph in the fall and winter, a time when the island breathes a sigh of relief, recovers and draws new strength. Almost deserted, the isolated places by the sea and inland unfold a special stillness and atmospheric intensity. A Mallorca that is rarely experienced in this way: untouched and full of quiet magic.

Palm trees on the beach, the sea behind them. The eye searches almost magnetically for the horizon. This unreal strip that can never be reached. Longing travels with our gaze. Our picturesque visions fade out the things of everyday life. Every perception comes from within. It is selective. Influenced by preconceived ideas and memories. We unconsciously filter reality until what we long for remains. Michael Heinsen traces this secret of perception in his photographic work.

Heinsen is fascinated by the interaction between image and sight. The individual perception, experience and interpretation. In this sense, Michael Heinsen sees his photography as an offer to the viewer to become aware of their own seeing, to surrender to the images. The liveliness and movement of his photography invites this. It is emphasized by seemingly painterly moods with impressionistic effects.  His style is characterized by soft contours, flowing light moods and deliberately reduced sharpness.
